School History

St. Peters Lutheran Elementary School (LES) first opened its doors in the fall of 1983. The building itself was built in 1964 and was used for Catechism classes and Sunday School. Principal Frank Corona and two additional teachers welcomed sixty students. The next year another teacher was added and St. Peters began a boys basketball team. Since then girls and boys basketball, cheerleading, coed soccer, girls volleyball, girls and boys softball, and coed track have been added as extracurricular sports.

In 1985 St. Peters joined the newly formed Bay Area Lutheran League with seven other WELS schools. Originally an athletic league, it expanded to include academic competitions such as spelling bees, math meets and forensic contests. Bay 1988 St. Peters had grown to 125 students in grades K-8. At the end of the 1989-90 school year, Mr. Corona stepped down as principal and Mr. Paul Lutze took over those duties. In 1993 a preschool was added and we now have 3 year old and 4 year old preschool.

St. Peters congregation has continued to experience the Lord’s hand in guiding and blessing the LES. In 2001 our addition of the Family Life Activity Center was completed. Two additional teachers were added in 2003. The current full-time staff of seven has a wonderful mix of experience and youth with a generous spirit of cooperation and dedication. St. Peters LES is accredited through the Wisconsin Religious and Independent Schools Accreditation (WRISA). Long range plans, goals, policies, handbooks and curriculums are continuously being reviewed and updated.

One hundred seventy-five students have graduated from St. Peters LES, many of whom are now actively involved in leadership roles within our WELS churches. The congregation has also benefited from the leadership of the school staff. New families have come to know their Savior through the efforts of the school and work of the Holy Spirit. The Lord has certainly blessed St. Peters LES by making it a strong and effective vehicle to train young people in the ways of the Lord. May the Lord continue to bless our efforts to share God’s Word.

Mission Statement

“Excellence in Education to Grow in Christ and to Share Christ”

St. Peters LES and Preschool exists to ensure that all students receive the best possible education grounded in the truths of God’s Holy Word. It is to assist parents in the training of their children to become active members of God’s family. Proverbs 22:6 “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Since the school is an arm of the church, our Mission is reflective of the Mission of our congregation, which is “We Exist to Share Christ.”
